Denton County BEST Robotics Competion

As our first competition of the year, the BEST competition is conveniently located at the UNT Coliseum.  This past year, the theme was a mission in space.  This year's theme is planes.  We will receive more information on Kick-off day.

National Engineering Design Competion

This competition entails creating assistive technology for "persons with disabilities."  This past year, we worked with Expanco Incorporated to design a device that would allow workers in wheelchairs to assemble spools.  We placed 2nd at Nationals, which was in Washington, D.C.

If you would like to address any specific disabilities or circumstances, please let us know.

InvenTeams [complete]

InvenTeams is program where schools receive up to $10,000 to develop an invention.  We have been selected to advance to the second round of the application, in which grant recipients will be chosen.

Regional/National Science Bowl

We will have weekly practices later in the year to determine placement of team members (5 people per team).  Topics include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, and General Science.

TAMS placed in 1st and 2nd at Regionals this past year.  The 1st place team also wins an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for National Science Bowl.

Science Olympiad

Some of you may have participated in this competition at your former schools.  We'd like to participate also.  More information to come later.

TEAMS

TEAMS is a one-day competition at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in which schools around the region compete in teams of up to eight people.  This is a sit-down event, consisting of a multiple choice section and an essay section, which the entire team works together on.   No  in-depth preparation is needed beforehand (they allow students to bring textbooks).

The Junior Varsity team (members from class of '09) placed 10th in Nationals, in Division 4.
